Oticon Hearing Aids
The hearing aid that trusts your brain
Most hearing aids decide what you should hear. Oticon lets your brain decide. That single philosophy - feed the brain, don't filter the world - defines everything about this Danish brand, from its DNN-powered sound processing to the world's first 4D motion sensors. Whether that makes Oticon right for you depends on how you want to hear. This guide helps you figure that out.
"Most hearing aids narrow your world to the person in front of you. Oticon opens it back up and lets your brain do what brains have done for 200,000 years - choose what matters." — The BrainHearing philosophy, in one sentence
The 120-second version: who is Oticon?
Oticon is a Danish hearing aid manufacturer, part of Demant A/S, one of the largest hearing technology companies on the planet. Founded in 1904 - that's 122 years ago - Oticon has been making hearing aids longer than almost anyone else in the industry. Their headquarters are in Smørum, Denmark, and their research labs consistently rank among the most published in audiology.
Oticon is one of the "Big Five" hearing aid brands alongside Phonak (Swiss), Signia (German), ReSound (Danish), and Widex (Danish). In the US market, Oticon is consistently among the top three most-fitted brands, and the Oticon Intent scored 4.9 out of 5 on HearAdvisor when professionally tuned - one of the highest scores ever recorded.
The Oticon difference, in plain English
Every other major hearing aid brand asks the same question: "How do we separate speech from noise?" They build increasingly powerful processors to isolate one voice and suppress everything else.
Oticon asks a different question: "How do we give the brain the full picture and let it do the work?"
Their BrainHearing approach delivers sound from all 360 degrees - voices, ambient noise, spatial cues, everything - and trusts your brain's natural auditory system to prioritize what matters. The result isn't louder hearing. It's easier, less tiring, more natural hearing. You don't just hear the person talking to you — you hear the whole room and choose where to focus, the way you did before hearing loss.
How Oticon got here: a quick evolution
- 2016 - Oticon Opn Hearing Aids ("Open")Oticon introduces the Open Sound philosophy. For the first time, a hearing aid delivers 360-degree sound instead of narrowing focus to one direction. The industry takes notice.
- 2021 - Oticon MORE Hearing AidsThe first hearing aid with an on-board Deep Neural Network (DNN), trained on 12 million real-world sound scenes. The DNN doesn't follow rules - it recognizes patterns the way a brain does. Everything changes.
- 2023 - Oticon REAL Hearing AidsAdds a Wind & Handling Stabilizer for outdoor use, plus SuddenSound Stabilizer for unexpected loud noises. Real becomes the most refined version of DNN 1.0 and a best-seller.
- 2024 - Oticon INTENT Hearing AidsWorld's first hearing aid with 4D sensor technology. Head movement, body movement, conversation dynamics, and acoustic environment all feed the new Sirius chip with DNN 2.0. A genuine generational leap.
- Jan 2026 - Oticon ZEAL Hearing Aids Flagship AI squeezed into an in-the-ear design so small it's invisible in 9 out of 10 ears. Same Sirius chip. Same DNN 2.0. Full Bluetooth streaming and Auracast. A new form factor that changes who Oticon can serve.
- Apr 2026 - Oticon VERIT Hearing AidsThe Sirius platform brought to traditional disposable-battery models for people who prefer zinc-air over rechargeable. Same BrainHearing tech, no charger needed.
The full 2026 lineup: pick your Oticon
Oticon keeps its lineup refreshingly clear. No 47 overlapping models, no confusing sub-brands. Here's what's current:
Oticon Intent
The one that reads your body language
Intent is Oticon's best hearing aid and the only one on the market with 4D sensor technology. Built-in accelerometers and gyroscopes track where you're looking, how you're moving, and whether you're in a one-on-one conversation or a group — then adjust the sound before you even notice the change. Sirius chip. DNN 2.0. Bluetooth LE Audio. Auracast-ready. IP68. Available in 4 technology tiers (Intent 1 through 4), all with the same physical hardware.
Oticon Zeal
The invisible one that misses nothing
Same Sirius chip. Same DNN 2.0. Same BrainHearing. But in a completely-in-the-ear design so small that it's invisible in 9 out of 10 ears. Instant-fit or custom-fit options. Full Bluetooth LE Audio streaming, hands-free calling, and Auracast - rare for an in-the-ear device. Rechargeable with a SmartCharger case that holds 3 extra charges and gives 4 hours from a 15-minute top-up. One premium tier only.
Oticon Real
The proven performer at its lowest price ever
Oticon Real hearing aid was the world's best hearing aid when it launched in 2023, and the sound hasn't gotten worse because a newer model exists. Polaris chip. DNN 1.0. Excellent wind and handling stabilization. Telecoil on every model. Official CROS/BiCROS support. Disposable-battery styles available. Now at runout pricing that makes it genuinely hard to ignore for budget-conscious buyers - or anyone who needs telecoil or CROS that Intent doesn't offer.
Oticon Xceed
Maximum power for severe to profound loss
Oticon's dedicated super-power BTE hearing aids for the hardest-to-fit hearing losses. Maximum output with OpenSound Navigator for full 360-degree sound even at extreme amplification levels. If you need raw power above everything else, this is the one.
Not sure which one?
The 10-second decision
Dynamic life + budget allows → Intent 2. Discretion above all → Zeal. Telecoil or CROS needed → Real. Quiet life + best price → Real 2. Severe loss → Xceed.
The three technologies that define Oticon
1. Deep Neural Network (DNN 2.0)
Oticon was the first hearing aid company to put a trained neural network on a chip inside the hearing aid itself (2021, Oticon More). The DNN was trained on 12 million real-world sound scenes - not in a lab, but recorded from real people in real environments - to process audio the way the brain's auditory cortex naturally does. DNN 2.0, in Intent and Zeal, is the refined second generation: faster, more nuanced in complex noise, and integrated with the 4D sensor data.
2. 4D Sensor Technology (Intent only)
This is what makes Oticon Intent Hearing Aids different from every other hearing aid on the planet. Built-in accelerometers and gyroscopes create four real-time data streams:
Where your head is turned - so the hearing aid knows you've shifted attention to someone on your left before the microphones fully catch up. How your body is moving - sitting, walking, running each have different acoustic needs. What kind of conversation you're in - one-on-one, group, or just listening. What the acoustic environment looks like - the standard microphone data every hearing aid uses.
Oticon Intent Hearing Aids combines all four to understand your intent - not just what's happening around you, but what you're trying to do about it. No other hearing aid attempts this.
3. OpenSound Navigator (360° sound)
Where most hearing aids narrow your sound world to a cone in front of you, Oticon's OpenSound Navigator scans the full 360-degree environment 500 times per second and preserves the spatial cues your brain needs. You hear sounds from behind, beside, and in front - and your brain chooses what to focus on naturally, the way it did before hearing loss. This is the core of BrainHearing and the reason Oticon wearers consistently report less listening fatigue than users of directional-only brands.
Who should choose Oticon - honestly
Oticon is probably your brand if:
- Aggressive noise suppression exhausts you. If you've tried other hearing aids and found the sound hollow, tunnel-like, or tiring, Oticon's open-sound approach often feels like the relief valve people didn't know existed.
- Your days shift constantly between environments. Office → car → lunch → meeting → gym → dinner. Intent's 4D sensors adapt seamlessly to every transition without you touching a button.
- You want to hear the whole room, not just one voice. At a dinner table where multiple people talk, Oticon lets you follow all of them. Most competitors force you to pick one.
- Cognitive health matters to you. BrainHearing is built on the principle that keeping the brain's full auditory system engaged rather than pre-filtering everything - may better support long-term cognitive function. Read about hearing loss and dementia →
- You want the most invisible premium hearing aid. Zeal puts flagship AI into a nearly invisible form factor with full streaming - something most competitors haven't achieved yet.
Consider something else if:
- Maximum speech-in-noise separation is your #1 priority. Phonak's DEEPSONIC chip extracts a single voice from chaos more aggressively than Oticon's open approach. See our Phonak vs Oticon comparison →
- Music quality is non-negotiable. Widex's ZeroDelay PureSound reproduces music with higher fidelity than Oticon. Explore Widex →
- You're a first-time wearer worried about your own voice sounding weird. Signia's Own Voice Processing directly solves this — Oticon doesn't have an equivalent. Explore Signia →
- Universal Bluetooth is essential. Oticon uses BT LE Audio, which works great with current iPhones and many Android phones but isn't as universally compatible as Phonak's Bluetooth Classic, which connects to literally anything.
What Oticon actually costs
At traditional US clinics: $5,400 to $11,000 per pair, depending on the model and tier. At HearSilk: up to 50% less, same genuine device, licensed remote fitting, manufacturer warranty.

What is BrainHearing?
BrainHearing is Oticon's core philosophy. This reduces listening fatigue and creates a more natural listening experience than directional-only approaches.
Oticon doesn't just make hearing aids. They make hearing aids that trust your brain - and 122 years of Danish engineering backs that bet. At HearSilk, you get every Oticon model at a price that doesn't require blind trust in a clinic's markup.
