Oticon sells the Intent in four levels, and the price gap between the top and bottom can be over $2,000 a pair. Nobody explains that gap clearly so people either overbuy out of fear, or underbuy and stay frustrated. Intent 4 is not a cheap hearing aid. It's the same flagship hardware with fewer processing features unlocked. That's good news: stepping down a tier doesn't mean stepping down in build quality, battery life, streaming or durability. It only changes how hard the device works in noise which matters a lot for some people and barely at all for others.
“So what do I actually lose if I don't buy Intent 1?”

In plain terms: the single biggest difference is noise reduction. Intent 1 can lift speech out of background noise by up to 12 dB, Intent 2 by up to 10 dB, Intent 3 by up to 8 dB, and Intent 4 offers basic handling only. Every other difference is a refinement on top of that.
